Hotels have no legal obligation to provide an extra bed. But if they decide to do so, they must consider it as an actual bed, since it implies an additional cost for the client. First, the bed must fit perfectly in the room, both in size and in design. It should also meet specific comfort standards. The mattress should have a density of no less than 28 kg/m3, which is the minimum recommended by the Chambre syndicale de la Literie (Union Chamber of the Bedding Industry). The frame should be firm enough to absorb the weight without bending, and flat, to avoid any damage to the mattress. Two equally important criteria for hotel resorts or university dorms, where rooms rarely exceed 30m2.
